Post extraction wound healing.
Bone Grafting for Dental Implants – This includes closure of sinus lifts, ridge augmentation and both inlay and onlay grafts
Bone Repair – A-PRF can be used to repair defects due to tooth removal, or the removal of growths and cysts.
Fistula Repair – This includes the repair of the fistulas between the mouth and the sinus cavity.
PRP is abbreviated for Platelet Rich Plasma.
Platelet Rich Plasma has long been used in hospitals to accelerate the body’s own healing process.
This treatment is used in many areas of medicine including orthopaedics, plastic surgery, sports medicine (to heal tendons) and in Ear, Nose and Throat surgeries. It is now being used in dentistry. Specifically for wound healing, periodontics and dental implants.
Our blood has incredible healing properties one of which is Platelet Rich Plasma. PRP comes from your own blood and consists of a fibrin network- think of a piece of cotton fabric- that is rich in platelets, leukocytes (infection fighting cells), healing hormones and powerful growth factors.
Any time you cut yourself your body responds by beginning the healing process- one cell signals another cell which brings a healing protein that starts another healing cascade. The process takes that cellular cascade and concentrates it into a fiber mesh that covers your graft and accelerates the wound healing process.
Blood platelets (PRP) perform several essential functions in the body, including blood clot formation and the release of growth factors that help to heal wounds. These growth factors stimulate the stem cells to produce new host tissue as quickly as possible, which is why PRP is so effective in the post-treatment healing process
Being a firm believer in following modern evidence based medicine, Dr Max has incorporated PRP treatment protocol into his surgical procedures. He wants the best treatment and most predictable outcome for you. Dr Max is keen to provide his patients with the best available techniques. Platelet Rich Plasma is an advanced technology and medical innovation that has been shown to help your bone and soft tissue to heal faster, stronger and to minimise swelling (inflammation).
Regenerative power! Your white blood cells (leukocytes) have anti-infective and anti-inflammatory effects that act within your extraction, graft and implant site. They also have a very powerful growth factor- Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) – think super protein- which causes new blood vessels to form rapidly within the extraction site or bone graft which in turn causes you to grow healthy new tissue or bone rapidly. Your platelets are concentrated within this mesh work and release various growth factors that enhance the healing cascade.
Low Infection Risk – A-PRF is secured on the wound after the procedure by the dentist and actually seals the wound away from infectious agents, lowering the risk of problems.
Accelerated Healing – The saturation of the wound with PRP helps increase tissue synthesis due to its growth factors, and this in turn results in faster tissue regeneration. Speedier healing decreases the risks of later infections, complications and discomfort.
Safety and Convenience – Disease transmission is a non-issue since the blood is harvested from the patient’s own blood supply. The amount of blood needed is small and is easily collected at the time of treatment.
The PRP process is a simple chair-side procedure. A small amount of blood will be drawn into test tubes, no different than when you have a blood test. The tubes are placed in the PRP centrifuge, which spins the tubes at high speed to separate the PRP. Dr Max will then place the PRP into your extraction, grafting or implant site.
Dr Max has over 20 years of experience in dentistry and has undertaken advanced training in Implant Surgery, Intravenous Sedation, Cosmetic Dentistry, Invisalign and Oral Surgery. He can answer any questions you may have regarding our services, or any other oral health issues you may have.
