25 Sep Sedation Dentistry
Forget your fears of the dentist and get the care you deserve through sleep dentistry, with the team at Siana Dental.
At Siana Dental we understand it is common to fear or experience anxiety when thinking about visiting the dentist. Unfortunately this means that many people avoid preventive treatment and allow significant oral health issues to arise. Which leads to more complex or extensive work being required.
Thankfully, you don’t have to avoid getting the dental care you need with sleep dentistry at Siana Dental. From simple cleans to complex procedures we provide a range of sedative options to ensure you receive a comfortable experience. Dr Max is one of only three AHPRA endorsed conscious sedation practitioners in Melbourne. With 20 years’ experience treating over 1300 patients through sleep dentistry you can rest assured that you are in very safe hands. The team at Siana Dental can complete treatment quickly and safely in our practice, saving you time, anxiety and costs.
Sedation dentistry is a safe technique that creates optimum patient comfort. It can be used in varying degrees for a broad range of treatments and is particularly useful for patients who:
- Experience anxiety as a result of dental treatment
- May have had traumatic dental experiences in the past
- Have difficulty feeling pain relief through local anaesthetic
- Fear needles and the noises/smells associated with visiting the dentist
- Have TMJ issues and can’t open their mouth for long periods
- Are undergoing complex or extensive procedures
- Don’t have the time for multiple visits
- Have a strong gag reflex
Two of the sedative options available at Siana Dental are Happy Gas and IV sedation.
Happy Gas – a colourless, odourless gas also known as ‘happy gas’ or ‘laughing gas’. You breathe it in and after a few minutes will bring on a pleasurable or euphoric state which wears off quickly. You will still be aware of what is going on but feel more relaxed and ‘dreamy’. You can drive shortly after treatment, once the effects have completely left your system.
IV (intravenous) sedation has a similar effect to general anaesthetic without actually being asleep. The patient remains conscious and is able to understand and respond but will experience deep relaxation and won’t feel pain. Often, patients won’t remember the period they were under sedation.
The use of sedatives allows complex full mouth treatment to be completed in one visit, as opposed to taking multiple appointments. Consultation with Dr Max and the skilled team at Siana Dental will determine which method is best for you.
